Survival guide to sewing projects… (revisited)

Hi fashion sewers,

Welcome to my second Monday post.

It was brought to my attention recently that in a previous post, entitled “survival guide to sewing projects“, the tools and equipment listed are quite varied and although familiar to those who have some knowledge within fashion sewing circles, to some of my readers there was confusion as to what some of the items were or even looked like.  Well my Monday posts are here to help.  Below you will find further explanations and even a slideshow covering some of the more essential tools.

I hope the slideshow below will prove to be of more help and demonstrates the must have tools for any sewing box.  Don’t forget, you can click on the captions for a better description.

There are many types of sewing machine. My advice would be to try all varities and find the one that best suits your needs.

Must haves:-

-  Sewing machine

-  3 pairs Scissors (cutting paper, fabric and threads)

-  Tape measure

-  Pins

-  Mannequin

-  Selection of sewing threads

-  Tailors chalk

-  Adhesive tape

-  Seam ripper/stitch unpick

-  Thimble

The tools mentioned above, along with the pictures within the slideshow are my actual tools which are used within my sewing room.  Start with these basics as I did and try to expand as you learn.

I have omitted the picture of a full length mirror for obvious reasons.  Firstly, to actually take a decent photograph is virtually impossible unless you want to see a camera happy Colleen in the reflection, and to be fair, I do believe most of us know what a mirror looks like.

Did you find the slideshow helpful, and do you have different names for any of the tools that I have mentioned?

Happy sewing.
