Fashion Sewing Begins To See The Light Of Day!
Making your own clothes can be a driving force behind self confidence, self reliance, creative freedoms and boosts self image.
In this report, the third in my ‘Sex in Sewing‘ series, I want to focus more on the positives of how our beloved fashion sewing is marketed.
A new, vibrant, and positive light has now been shed on this craft, motivating others who would not normally pick up a needle and thread.
Why?
Because fashion sewing has got – The Sex Factor!
My other posts in this series, namely ‘There’s No Sex in Sewing‘ and ‘3 Reasons Why Fashion Sewing Is Sexy‘ looked at the differences between rare glimpses of sewing advertisments, and how our fashionista are bombarded daily with glamour, sex and adventure.
We examined the ploys used to sell these consumable goods, and how they suggest that you are buying into more than just a piece of clothing. You are buying into the whole concept of romance, sex and fantasy.
Subliminal advertising I think we called it!
Okay, the sewing industry may not pay anywhere near as much money or attention, tempting and seducing us, the sewingista to buy, But -
Just because the sexy images are not immediate, does not mean that fashion sewing is not a cool (and sexy) art form. Fashion sewing has the ‘sex factor‘ as it makes us feel and look truly fabulous.

I have spent many years telling fashion sewers -
‘Creating your own clothing line is a lifestyle indulgence!’
Now that my audience has grown somewhat (thank you to each and every reader) I am able to expand on this message and tell those willing to listen that we sewingista, are just as special, or maybe even more so than our fashionista sisters.
After all, only we can experience the true delight of wearing something that truly belongs to us.
We advertise both a skill and talent, marketing a figure which wears made to measure pieces. We win the sex appeal fight. Be that knockout!
Fashion Sewing’s Future

I admit, that before the introduction of the Internet, fashion sewing was the sole preserve of groups of women, occasionally having a get together in a dusty church hall, or the hobbiest continuing skills passed down from earlier generations.
It was NOT, as it is today, steadily growing in focus and force. The Internet has given renewed vigour to this art, and, using innovative, and up to date imagery, develops new threads within fashion sewing (no pun intended) and encourages more and more people to join the growing sewing community.
The Internet is growing into an place of eternal knowledge and wealth. Some fashion sewers have recognised its importance (me included) and have taken what they know, what they do, their passion, and created blogs and websites (just like Fashion Sewing Blog) to share, teach and encourage us to move forward and be proud of what we do.
‘Nobody else seemed to want to advertise us – Hey, let’s do it ourselves’.
Now, there are hundreds of blogs and websites, dedicated in whole to fashion sewing. If you visit my Sewing for Beginners page, you’ll see a list of them on my blogroll.
The bigger sites, for example Burda, offer its readers a more interactive roll. Something that Fashion Sewing Blog will also be implementing come the new year.
So if you haven’t checked any of these sites out for yourself, give them a try and see how these bloggers are trying to involve you in a world of fashion sewing that is evolving into a creature which can both change and enhance your life.

The internet is clearly our future. We are not all bloggers, web wizards, site owners etc but we can, we should, WE MUST, be sharing our passion with those that show an interest.
Advertise the passion, the romance, the sex in the clothing that you make and wear. Utilise the internet, Facebook, Twitter, Fashion Sewing Blog and other sewing sites to upload and share photo’s of your creations.
Some of us now find ourselves in our parents, or grandparents shoes, ready to impart the skills we have gained and developed to the next generations.
