Sewing Facing to a ‘V’ Neckline

In today’s article, guide and FREE online fashion sewing video tutorial, I’d like to demonstrate for you the technique of sewing facing to a ‘V’ neckline.

Probably the widest known, and easiest to identify, the V neckline is, when adding and sewing facing, in comparison to say, the round or square versions, an easy neckline to complete.

When sewing facing to a V neckline, preparation is, as with the others, very similar if not the same, and the only real difference is the direction in which the fashion sewer stitches.

If you want a neckline that elongates the neck, then the V’s for you!

How to Sew Facing to a V Neckline

1 - Stay stitch the garment neckline and neckline facing.

2 – Interface both the facing and the garment neckline.

3 – Place the facing right sides together (front and back), and sew the shoulder seams. Press open and do the same to the garment.

4 – Place the right side of your facing onto the right side of the garment. Ensure the shoulder seams and notches are all aligned and then pin into place.

5 – Machine sew the seam allowance of the V neckline.

6 – At the ‘V’ of the neckline, sew 1 stitch horizontal to the V which will help shaping.

7 – Release the tension of the V by clipping near to the stitching. Trim and grade the seam.

8 – Turn the facing to the wrong side and pin into place.

9 – Press into position.

10 – Understitch the wrong side of the facing to stop any unwanted movement.

And you’re done!
