Sewing Spaghetti Straps

Sewing Spaghetti StrapsHello fashion sewers and welcome to our Fashion Sewing Blog.

In today’s article, guide and FREE online fashion sewing video tutorial, I’d like to demonstrate for you how to sew spaghetti straps for your sewing projects.

A spaghetti strap, also commonly referred to as a shoestring strap, is more commonly associated with lingerie, dresses and tops and consists of a very narrow tube of fabric, used as a shoulder strap.

Spaghetti straps can however also be used as a decorative braiding and cording.

The sewing of spaghetti straps is not a complicated process but a really handy technique to procure for your fashion sewing skill set and tool kit.

How to Sew Spaghetti Straps

1 – Cut out your spaghetti strap on the bias grain of your fashion fabric to the required length.

2 – Cut a length of cord, ensuring it is longer in length than the fabric strip.

3 – Fold the fabric strip in half.

4 – Wrap the right side of the fabric around the cord, matching up the raw edges and pin into place.

5 – Start sewing across the cord to secure it in place, and then along the cord to sew the seam.

6 – Trim the seam to 0.3 cm – 1/8inch.

7 – Holding on to the top of the strap, gently pull on the cord. This will bring the strap through to the right side.

8 – Cut away the cord and your spaghetti strap is complete.
