Welcome to part 2 of the Simplicity 2884 dress sew-along!
If you’ve been following with me, the bodice of your dress should now be ready and waiting for the skirt section to be completed.
Once the skirt section is done, you can complete your halter neck dress and add it to your growing collection of great looking clothing.
Bring on the summer vacation!

Please remember you can complete this sew-along, or any of my others at your own pace and a time of your choosing. All I ask is that when you’ve done, please share a photo or two of the finished article at Sewingista Gallery.
And if this is the first time you’ve seen this sew-along and want to give it a try, you can find this, and every Fashion Sewing Blog sew-along on my ‘Sew-Along‘ page of my blog.

A Little More Sew-Along Help
1 – Centre Seams – Place right sides together and sew the centre seams of the front and the back. Once sewn, press.
2 – Pleats – Ensure the pleats are lying towards the centre seam then baste into position. To see how to sew quick and easy pleats click ‘Sewing Pleats‘.
3 – Skirt Lining – Sew the darts and the side seams, ensuring that the left seam is open as indicated by the sewing pattern marking for insertion of the zipper later. Clip into the seam, stitch at the notch and press open.
4 – Lining (Hemline) – Machine sew a narrow hemline to the skirt lining.
5 – Skirt (Hemline) – Remove any fullness from the hemline and then hand sew the hemline using a slip stitch or hemming stitch.
6 – Skirt and Lining – Place the lining into the skirt, wrong sides together. Match up the seams and then pin along the waistline, ensuring the area for the zip / zipper is clipped and even.
7 – Bodice – Place the bodice of the dress into the skirt, right sides together. Pin the bodice to the skirt, matching up the seams and then press the seam toward the skirt.
8 – Boning – When sewing the seam of the boned area, make sure you do not sew over the boning.
9 – Zip / Zipper – Insert the lapped zipper.
10 – Tape – The top of the zip / zipper tape must be folded.
So how are you doing, any problems?
Do take your time and keep referring back to your sewing pattern guide sheet. If that doesn’t help, then please feel free to contact me and I, and the fashion sewing community will be more than happy to offer advice.
Happy fashion sewing
