Sew-Along – The New Look 6130 Top

The New Look 6130 Top Sew-Along!

At long last fashion sewers, it’s time to start our next sew-along and make this beautiful, New Look 6130 top sewing pattern.

I hope that by now, you’ve collected together all of your fashion sewing tools and equipment and purchased the sewing pattern, ready to take part and complete this stylish garment in time for the summer sun.

All I ask, is that once you’ve completed your New Look 6130 top using my instructions and demonstrations below, that you upload a photo of your project to our Sewingista Gallery to enable the fashion sewing community to look at, compare and possibly comment on.

‘Share your creative side with the world’!

So before we get down to business, do make a check that you’ve got everything you need.

Visit – Checklist – The New Look 6130 Top and I’ll wait for you right here!

Wow! That was quick.

So we are almost good to go.

I’d just like to remind those of you taking part, that although I’ll be making design C during this sew-along, you can still take part if you decide to complete any of the other top design variations.

Design C – A peplum top with princess seam shaping. This top is sleeveless, with a boat neckline, A-symmetrical peplum and tie belt.

During our sew-along, you will also have access to the following -

1 – A slideshow featuring still photo’s of key moments during garment construction. (Don’t forget to click on the photo to enlarge it!)
2 – A written guide to further instruct fashion sewers during this sew-along.
3 – Contact me or comments which participants can use to ask questions if they get stuck or need further guidance.

So between us, we shouldn’t have too many problems creating another professional looking piece of clothing for our expanding wardrobes. Fingers crossed!

Oh! And you’ll find useful links to fashion sewing video tutorials, all there to help and guide you further.

sewing

1Tie Belt – Join the two fabric pattern pieces together at the notched end to create one piece. Fold the belt in half, (right sides together) and sew a 1cm – 3/8inch seam allowance. Ensure you leave an opening to turn the belt to the right side.

2PleatsSew the pleats into the peplum front and back sections.

3Darts – The back of the bodice has two darts. Sew them and then press.

4Princess Seam – Sew the side front princess seam of the bodice.

5Peplum – Sew the back peplum, leaving an opening for the zipper (see sewing pattern instructions). Attach to the back of the bodice and then the front.

6Zipper – Insert an invisible zipper into the bodice centre back seam.

7Front and Back – With right sides together, join the front and back of the bodice. Sew the shoulder seams and side seams. Press open.

8Peplum – Sew the hemline of the peplum and then press.

9Neckline – Sew the neck facing to the neckline and trim, grade and press. Slip stitch the facing edges to the zipper tape.

10Armhole – Sew the facing onto the armhole and press. Your New Look 6130 top is now complete.

And now I think we all deserve a nice cup of hot coffee as we sit back and admire our brand new item of clothing!

In reality, do take as much time as you need to complete the sewing project and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions during the construction process.

I look forward to seeing everybody’s completed top soon.

Happy fashion sewing

  1. After seeing your top, I had to go buy the pattern tonight. I can’t wait to get started. Did you post a final picture yet?

    Thank you!
