In today’s FREE article, guide and online fashion sewing video tutorial, I’d like to demonstrate for you the technique of lace insertion.
This method, which I will guide you through shortly, involves the use of narrow lengths of lace.
Once sewn into place on your fashion fabric, and prepared correctly, lace insertion will allow the fashion sewer to integrate delicate lace into a chosen fabric and create an added dimension and unique decorative feature.

How to Insert Lace into Fashion Fabric

1 – Place the wrong side of the lace onto the right side of your fashion fabric and pin into position.
2 – Sew close to the edge of the lace on both sides using a straight stitch.
3 – Working on the underside of the fabric, trim between the stitched rows, leaving a narrow seam allowance of about 1cm to both sides.
4 – Turn and press the seam allowances away from the lace insertion.
5 – Working on the right side of your fabric, sew a second row of very narrow zigzag stitch over the first row of straight stitching.
6 – If there is any excess seam allowance, trim it away close to the stitching.
And you’re done!
With minimal effort, you really can create some superb designs and make those fashion sewing projects simply sparkle.
