Hello fashion sewers and welcome to our Fashion Sewing Blog.
In today’s article, guide and FREE online fashion sewing video tutorial, I’d like to demonstrate for you the technique of joining and sewing the ends of piping cord together.
Now you may be thinking that this is a topic that needs little explanation, but in reality, this technique can be a tricky one to get just right, more so when attempting to produce that sought after seamless look where the join is invisible to detect.

If you’ve never used piping cord within your sewing projects, then before trying the following technique, I’d like to refer you back to an article and video tutorial I wrote some months ago, entitled -

If you’re happy to continue, then let’s get straight down to business.

NB – Do remember, to get this fashion sewing technique ‘just‘ right, concentrate on the initial placement of the piping cord to start with.
1 – When you first start sewing the piping, leave 1.5cm – 3/4inch free.
2 – When you come to the end of your sewing, again, stop 1.5cm – 3/4inch from the end.
3 – Remove a couple of stitches and pull out 1.5cm – 3/4inch of the piping cord or filling from within the bias strip. Cut away and discard.
4 – Lap over the now empty strip. This should now cause the end of the piping cord and the start of it to join without any bulk. Pin into place.
5 – Machine sew, finishing the technique and creating a join that is both seamless and professionally done.
