I’m A Celebrity And Sew Are You

Fashion Sewing Your Own Success!

Fashion sewing can really give you a taste of the celebrity lifestyle, without the constant barrage of the press.

Forget the reality TV shows or seeking that fifteen minutes of fame – pick up a needle and thread and your celebrity status will be immortalised forever in the clothes you create.

Fashion sewing is in its ascendancy causing the fashion designer many a sleepless night.  More and more women are learning the art of dressing for their own specific size and shape, not allowing fancy yet false advertising campaigns to lead them astray.

Paying the price for celebrity?  I’d rather fashion sew for FREE!

Unlocking The Celebrity Code

It’s kind of a strange (and worrying) world in which we now find ourselves.

People want celebrity like never before and they’ll do anything to achieve this so called status.

They will sing, dance, ridicule themselves and others and even go so far as to cosmetically change their appearance for fame and fortune.

Gone are the days when celebrity was something of a life long career option.  Today, as with high street clothing, it’s a disposable pleasure that comes and goes in the blink of an eye (or camera shutter).

Today, it’s all about the ‘I AM‘ or ‘LOOK WHAT I’VE GOT‘ attitude.

And that is where fashion sewing unlocks the celebrity code -

Celebrities will always draw attention to who’s clothes they wear, simply look at any red carpet!  We, as our own designers (we are Sewingista’s) make, wear and promote our own talents and too get the attention from those that admire our skills.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I wear one of my many sewing projects, not only do I get a great many people asking about its origins, which is a confidence boost in itself, but I’m at the front of the Que when a photo opportunity arises.

Am I being a diva!  NO, I’m just proud of what I can achieve with a little time and effort.

Smile For The Camera

Not only do we as fashion sewers share the notoriety of celebrity when it comes to obtaining another’s attention, we also like to walk down our own red carpet, and allow the world to gaze at our new and loved sewing projects.

What am I talking about?  Social media of course!

More and more of us the world over, are utilising such media as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and alike to post pictures of our unique creations.  We stand in front of the adoring camera, pose (well I know I do) and share these images with the world.

I can only hope this sharing trend continues, as not only does it inspire others to take up the fine art of fashion sewing, it shows us, the Sewingista that our community is growing at a healthy rate.

Gone are the days of the dressmaker and seamstress.  Fashion sewing is now in the limelight.

It’s time for YOUR curtain call!

So next time your out, remember the celebrity within.

DO insist on a little more time to get ready, DO get the best seat in the house to allow maximum benefit of a grand entrance and DO take every opportunity to show off your skills and talent.

Has your passion for fashion sewing brought about any ‘celebrity’ moments?  I’d be interested to hear about them.

Happy fashion sewing

  1. Colleen, I’ve been thinking about this post for a couple of days now. It does my heart so much good to hear your opinion on this “fifteen minutes of fame” mentality, which it seems the Internet and ‘reality TV’ have done so much to promote. You are right; people will degrade themselves just for that fleeting recognition. It seems many don’t even recognize that they should be embarassed for some of their words and behaviors.

Yet we have an enduring skill for which we can be proud. It is something we can pass on to our children and grandchildren. They can look back and recognize creativity and quality craftsmanship and patient teaching…timeless traits worthy of respect. I hadn’t thought much about including social media in that circle of celebration, but it could certainly be another way to stand up for what is admirable and enduring. Whether we share our skills publically or privately, perhaps we can create a culture that respects these characteristics that are worthy of celebrity status.
