FREE PDF Clutch Bag Pattern

A FREE PDF Clutch Bag Pattern!

Now I don’t know about yourself, but I find that as the days pass, I have very little time on my hands to spend shopping!

The times of wondering aimlessly around a multitude of stores, desperately hunting out those all important fashion sewing accessories has passed.

Where do those hours go?

Further more, and much to my husbands annoyance -

I always seem to end up back, in the first place we visited, slightly bemused, disheartened and forcing myself to buy a surrogate ‘gift‘ as I can never find what I want.

Accessorizing is great, but damn annoying!

Just as we do with the clothes we buy, we like too and must accessorize our fashion sewing creations.

No matter the time of year, when it’s time to shine in a brand new dress, jacket or skirt, then we must, no, we MUST have the right shoes, jewellery and bag to complete the look.

So, I thought, as we do with fashion sewing patterns, why not make our own accessories?

What better way to compliment our unique fashion sewing flair, than by using leftover fashion fabric, thrown to one side after completing a sewing project!

Think about it! Using that contrasting fabric on a brand new accessory, to give you that all important personal touch.

Today, as promised by Fashion Sewing Blog, I have designed my very own ‘Easy to Sew Clutch Bag‘ and below, for FREE, for every reader, you will find -

1 – A printable version of the clutch bag pattern (PDF format) for every reader.

2 – A complete and comprehensive guide (including slideshow) to instruct readers in the making of this fashionable, stylish, unique and easy to create clutch bag.

Want to give it a try? Ask yourself this! What’s there to lose?

That’s right fashion sewers – Nothing!

Let’s make a start!

The first thing we are going to need to do, before anything else, is to see exactly what we’re making.

I have named this clutch bag sewing pattern – the ‘Lily Clutch‘.

‘I do hope you’ll agree that it looks fantastic! Style with ease’.

Our Lily Clutch Bag Tools

sewing
Take a look at the list of tools I’ve provided below. To make the process of completing the Lily clutch bag effortless, I recommend you get them all together before you start.

- Scissors and sticky tape to attach the Lily pattern pieces together.
- Four sheets of A4 size paper to print out the Lily pattern onto.
- Magnetic clasp
- Fashion fabric
- Fusible interfacing
- Lining
- Embellishments (optional)
- Top stitching thread
- The correct size needle for your fashion fabric.

NB – The Lily clutch bag will print out in actual size (hence the need for 4 x A4 pieces of paper) so no alterations are required.

The Lily Clutch Bag

Now, we have all of the tools and the Lily clutch pattern printed out. All that is left to do, is to make it!

Lily Clutch Bag – Instruction and Guide

sewing

1Lily Clutch Pattern – Open and print out the Lily clutch sewing pattern PDF. It should fit onto 4 pieces of A4 paper. Simply tape the paper together so that you have the full Lily clutch pattern. Trace the flap and lining pattern sections as this will give you all of your pattern pieces to complete the project.

2Supplies Needed – Refer to the tool section above for the comprehensive list.

3Fuse – Cut out the sewing pattern. Interface the bag and flap sections.

4Fastening – Make two very small slits into the flap and bag (as indicated on the pattern marking) so that the fastening can be pushed through and secured into place.

5Lining – Sew the lining of the Lily clutch to the facing of the bag ensuring that right sides are together. Match up all markings and press the seam open. If you wish to embellish the Lily clutch, then this is the stage at which to do it.

6Side Seams – Sew the seams of the Lily clutch bag and clip off the corners. Press! Repeat this process for the lining, only leave an opening on one side. This will then enable you to ‘pull out‘ the clutch.

7Right Sides – Turn the Lily clutch to the right side. The lining at this stage remains on the wrong side. Slide the Lily clutch into the right side of the lining.

8Pining – Pin the Lily clutch to the lining all the way around, and then machine sew into place. Trim, grade and clip the seam and press.

9Pull Out – Turn the Lily clutch bag to the right side by pulling it through the lining opening. Slipstitch the opening closed.

10Topstitch – To hold the Lily clutch and lining together, topstitch. If you wish, you can also topstitch the flap (optional). You can also apply embellishment at this final stage.

1 x Lily clutch bag, COMPLETE!

I do hope that as many of you as possible will make the Lily clutch as it really is an easy way to create something a little special.

If you do, then I’d love to hear from you, or even better, see a photo of your Lily clutch at Sewingista Gallery.

Send me your photo’s and share your creativity with the fashion sewing community.

I’d also love to hear your opinions on this new concept I’ve introduced. Please feel free to contact me.

Happy fashion sewing and accessorizing

  3. Hi , I’m excited to try this and very greatful for the detail and effort ou have put in to this in showing us what to do! My only problem is when I printed of the PDF it printed of in one page instead of the 4 lol I was thinking at 1st wow that’s a very small clutch . Just thought you should know :0)

    • Colleen G Lea says:

Thanks for letting me know Zoe. I’ll check the sizing.

      • Is this supposed to be fixed? When I click print it comes up to print only one page, not four. I’m not sure if the problem is on my end or not. I wouldn’t argue either way, just not sure if I should be trying to fix something that I can’t from my end! LOL!

        • Colleen G Lea says:

Hi Angela, I’m checking the sizing and if there is a problem my end (highly likely) then I’ll attempt to fix it.
          Thanks for letting me know.

  4. Stitchgirl78 says:

Very cute bag, Colleen! Thank you for sharing this wonderful little pattern.

  5. How stiff is the interfacing you used? I suppose it depends on the fashion fabric, but I’m trying to get a feel for how stiff this clutch is when completed. Intriquing pattern….hmm…..

    • Colleen G Lea says:

I’d go for an interfacing that is heavy weight which will aid keep its shape and give strength.
      Thanks for the comment.
