As you can see from the video you’ve just watched, this technique of changing threads and re-threading your serger saves precious time.

If you do want to re-thread your machine the traditional way, then of course, by all means do so.

It’s all about personal choice.

So to clarify -

If you want to re-thread your serger and change threads in under two minutes, start with -

1 – Cut off the old threads, leaving a tail hanging from the thread stand.

2 – Put your new threads onto your serger, and tie the tail of the old thread to that of the new. Only tie a single knot for each thread.

3 – The needle thread is pulled through manually. Cut the old thread close to the eye of the needle and pull on it to bring through the new thread. Cut away the knot and thread it through the eye of the needle.

4 – Now, gently press down on the foot pedal of your serger. This will cause the two looper threads to travel along the serger, threading themselves as they go.

5 – Run your machine until all the threads have been exchanged.

I do hope you found this article and fashion sewing video tutorial of some use. Please do let me know.
