Stay Cool This Winter!
Make room in your fashion sewers wardrobe. Winter is almost upon us and it’s time to make those coats, jackets and capelets.
It’s also party season. Time ladies to invest a little time into making that special dress to impress.
No matter the invite, no matter the occasion. As the year draws to a close, each and every one of us should give ourselves a gift, making sure our winter sewing projects remain a conversation piece, late into next year.
What’s Hot and What’s Not!

As we have already discovered, there is a constant between our fashionista and the seasonal trends and our sewing patterns that we regularly purchase.
We, as Sewingista are fortunate, that not only do our sewing patterns reflect a seasons style and trend, but we have the ability and skill to make these ‘high end, haute couture‘ pieces ourselves.
Our investment in time, saves us a great deal of money!
So, this winter, allow Fashion Sewing Blog to give you a helping hand to discover and source the latest looks that will no doubt be replicated in sewing patterns this year end.
This post has been a little difficult. After researching this subject matter, I have discovered that there is so much out there to choose from. Far to much in fact for one post. Therefore, use the information supplied as a taster.
After all – Part of the fun of fashion sewing is getting out there, making those little gems of a discovery and bringing the piece to life.

It is my intention over this winter period, to make a coat, jacket, capelet and one or two party dresses as a series of sewing projects. I do hope you can join me.
Please do not be put off, thinking that these types of garment are well beyond a beginner fashion sewer – they’re NOT!!
Just look at some of my previous projects -

Winter sewing has already started. I’ve been making fleece hats for friends and family. Using Kwik Sew 2527 I have made some fleece hats, a balaclava for my other half who spends a lot of time outside. This particular piece of headgear is better than the standard knitted kind, as it tucks into the collar of a jacket and keeps the wearer really warm. Made of fleece these are really easy to do on the overlocker/serger. I found it took me longer (and I’m pretty quick at threading my overlocker/serger) to change the thread colour than stitch these!
Pattern also contains socks made from fleece and as someone who normally has cold feet in the depths of winter these will be ideal when watching TV of an evening (anyone thinking of making something like this, always beware that fleece can be slippery on lamiate flooring).
As for handbags and bags…………………..oh dear, I’ve now been given an excuse to make some of those……………
